The Queen Bees had a QOV ceremony and reception July 20, 2017. They had nine recipients, one of whom was not able to make it.
It was a very moving ceremony. What a wonderful way to honor our veterans.

Congratulations to The Giving Quilt!

Good Morning Ladies,

A few weeks ago, Mrs. Frances Bennett, a member of our Active for Autism Volunteer Committee reached out asking for your contact information. She learned of the work that you did with the Sewing Rocks project at Breakfast with 2une In and she wanted to nominate you for the Power of 9 Award through WAFB.

I just heard the news todayThe Giving Quilt has not only been nominated for the award, but you won!!! I cannot think of a group of individuals more deserving than all of you. In fact just yesterday, I heard from the Grandmother of a child who is a recipient of one of the weighted blankets that you made. Her grandson has Autism and a number of other serious health concerns. Due to his health concerns he has lost a drastic amount of weight and he is down to 55 lbs. He has severe sensory issues, feeding issues, sleep disorders just to name a few things that he struggles with. When he first got the blanket, his Grandmother was not sure he would like it because it is heavy. He uses it primarily during the day and he just loves to curl up with it. He wants to take it everywhere they go. He calls it his “heavy blanket.” The other night he was having trouble sleeping. No matter what he did, how he positioned himself, he could just not get comfortable so that he could sleep. He told his Grandmother, “I need my heavy blanket.” She went and got the blanket and covered him with it and he went right to sleep.

I wanted to share this story with you, so you can know just how much your work is touching the lives of others. You have each used your skill and your talent to provide comfort to these kids, who need it so desperately. We thank you so much for the work you have done, for allowing us to be a part of it, and we, Jamie, Penni and myself and the rest of the team here at FHF congratulate you on this award which is very well deserved. We are so excited for you!
